Ember of Departure, Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon)
Captured during the final weeks of visibility of Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon), Ember of Departure reveals a delicate dust tail fading into the surrounding star field as the comet slips toward the western horizon. Low altitude and encroaching twilight made this a challenging target, yet the comet’s structure remained striking even under imperfect skies
This image was recorded just after dusk from a location chosen for its unobstructed western view, as the comet hovered only a few degrees above the horizon. Light pollution and passing clouds limited the session to roughly thirty minutes of usable data, softening finer details while emphasizing the broader sweep of the dust tail as it dissolves into darkness.
Rather than a pristine, high-altitude apparition, this view highlights the realities of observing transient visitors from suburban settings. Fleeting, imperfect, and shaped as much by circumstance as celestial mechanics, the image is a record of a comet at departure, captured during its last observable moments before fading from view.
