The Mineral Moon reveals the Moon’s true mineral composition through enhanced color.
While the Moon appears monochrome to the naked eye, subtle variations in its surface chemistry produce delicate color differences. By carefully enhancing these natural variations, this image reveals ancient lava plains rich in iron and titanium, contrasting with the lighter highlands formed billions of years ago.
The delicate hues seen here arise from differences in mineral composition, formed by ancient volcanic activity and billions of years of bombardment. While these colors are invisible to the naked eye at the eyepiece, they exist within the data, waiting to be revealed.
Each print is produced locally in Michigan in collaboration with a professional fine art printer using archival materials to ensure exceptional detail, depth and longevity. Available on premium metallic paper for enhanced luminosity, or as a museum quality ready-to-hang metal print. An optional CODA float mount provides a clean, frameless display that allows the artwork to visually float off the wall.
